Tribe of Judah

Who we are
Tribe of Judah or TOJ, as we are often called, is Jesus House’s music ministry, made up of the main church
choir and instrumentalists. We are a lively group - a mixture of individuals brought together by the love of
music and a desire to use the gift God has placed in each of us to tell people about God’s love.

Worship with Heart, Music with Art!
The vision of TOJ is two-fold - to connect with God, to develop the technical and creative ability of each of the
members of our music ministry. The first half of our slogan Worship with Heart is
made up of 5 strands – the Spiritual, Passion, Ministry, Relationship and Leadership.
The second half is Music with Art, this is also made up of 5 strands - Excellence, Discipline, Maximising Potential ,
Skill, Creativity and Diversity .

Worship with Heart!
‘But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in
truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who
worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.’ John 4:23-24 (New Living Translation).
Worship that is true and sincere from the heart, inspired by the Spirit, focused on Jesus as the theme and heart of it.

Spiritual
Worship that is God-focused and inspired by the Word of God and genuine God-encounters.

Passion
A people that are sold-out for God and passionate about the worship of God; Passionate about protecting and
preserving the worship and glory of God in their lives and in the House of God.
A passion that is evident and obvious in the way we sing, dance, clap, serve etc.
A passion that visibly translates to the rest of the Body the depth of the heart behind our worship.
This is a passion that inspires and evokes responses from the Body that are equally passionate and expressive.

Ministry
A people that understand that ministry is service. It is service unto God and service to his people.
A ministry that is freely and deeply walking in the ministerial gifts of the spirit:
healing, prophecy, speaking and interpretation of tongues etc.
A people that see their ‘work’ in the music ministry as their reasonable service unto God.
A music ministry that is walking in tandem with the Leadership of the church and with other ministry areas within the church.

Relationship
‘If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others,
I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.’ 1 Corinthians 13:1 (New Living Translation).
A team of people that individually walk closely with God and are closely knit to each other.
A team that will minister in love - a ministry that is characterized by genuine love for each other and genuine relationships.

Leadership
Each person must recognise that they are a minister before God and take responsibility
for their sphere of influence and their individual contribution to the ministry as a whole.
A good team requires each of its members to take ownership for their contribution to the team.

Music with Art!
Worship in diverse expressions, that is skilled, excellent and creative.

‘One of the servants said to Saul, “One of Jesse’s sons from Bethlehem is a talented harp player.
Not only that—he is a brave warrior, a man of war, and has good judgment.
He is also a fine-looking young man, and the Lord is with him.” ’ 1 Samuel 16:18 (New Living Translation).

Excellence
A ministry that is characterised by excellence in its presentation and delivery,
recognising that there is a spirit and anointing carried by excellence.
Excellence is a also a requisite characteristic of the offerings that we bring to God.

Discipline
A ministry that demonstrates spiritual and physical discipline in their habits, comportment and behaviour.
A ministry that is made up of people that understand the place for and importance of spiritual
disciplines such as prayer, meditation and fasting and also physical disciplines such as
practice, respect for and submission to authority and the integrity of timekeeping and honesty.
A discipline that complements excellence.

Maximising Potential
A ministry that is built on the premise that every individual is gifted with unique gifts that can benefit the whole.
A ministry where individuals are continually growing and discovering themselves and given the opportunity to use and develop their gifts or interest.
A team of people that are interested in being the best that they can be for God, for themselves, and for each other.

Skill
A ministry of people who will minister to God and his people with skill in their voice or on their instrument.
Raising the standard of music within the church to be a light and example to the world.

Creativity and Diversity
A ministry where there is the liberty and freedom of expression to worship in different and creative ways,
ranging from original creations to innovative adaptations and unique styles.
Worship that is expressed in different languages, genres and styles representing and
reflecting the diversity of the membership of the church.
