Pentecost 2011

Three Churches - One City - United for Pentecost
Life in the Spirit

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were together in one place”
(Acts 2:1)

A Celebration of Life in the Spirit
After the success of last year’s event, all three churches - Jesus House, Hillsong and Holy Trinity Brompton - were excited to announce that Pentecost 2011 would take place once again on June 11th.

After months of praying, planning and rehearsing, amid much anticipation, Pentecost was finally here! This event formed part of the Pentecost Festival 2011, a week packed full of events celebrating the birth of the church of Jesus Christ.

The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Life in the Spirit’ and what an explosive night it was, the whole body of Christ celebrating the birth of the Christian church!

Last year’s event brought 5,000 Londoners to the Hammersmith Apollo. Bigger and better, this year it was held at the 02 Arena in Greenwich.

Normally open to the biggest names in popular music, this world-class venue hosted the gathering of 17,000 people from a variety of churches in the UK on this historic night!

Despite some of the most exciting and technically advanced features available - including sight-lines from every angle, crystal clear acoustics, comfy seating, wide spacing between aisles and 548 public toilets - there could be no doubt that the greatest feature on the night was the tangible presence of the Holy Spirit – which was experienced by all those that attended!

Thousands piled out of North Greenwich tube station and nearby car parks for the attendance of a night of celebration, worship and prayer, united in the vision of ‘one accord in one place’ to experience the power of the Holy Spirit, as it was 2,000 years ago.

Worship was led by Jesus House Tribe of Judah choir, Hillsong’s Joel Houston and Peter Wilson, and HTB’s Tim Hughes, with prayers led by the leaders of the host churches: Pastor Agu Irukwu, Gary Clarke and Nicky Gumbel respectively.

A special guest performer on the night was a man that needed no introduction, Israel Houghton, easily one of the most influential gospel musicians of our time.

The Tribe of Judah wowed the crowd with songs like ‘Empty Me’, ‘I’ll Bless the Lord Forever’, and ‘Shout Hallelujah’.
