Sit, Walk, Stand

Sit, Walk, Stand takes a close look at the doctrinal and practical lessons gleaned from the book of Ephesians. This book is small enough, that even if you are pushed for time you can easily go through its 67 pages in a couple of days. Not sure what to expect, I was captivated right from the introduction by the words, “God measures everything from start to finish by the perfections of His Son.” The book aims to get Christians knowing who they are and living lives that are pleasing to God.

“Sit” refers to our established position in Christ. It is the place of rest that we occupy simply by virtue of the fact that Christ died for us. That we are seated in Christ is, according to Watchman Nee, not just spiritual fact, but historical fact.

“Walk” refers to our Christian living. Interestingly we cannot walk unless we first sit and only then can we stand. A lot of Christians try to walk in order to sit, i.e., they try to perform in order to be accepted by God, but this is not possible because Christianity begins with a DONE and not a DO. God has already done it - we are already accepted in the beloved and it is as a result of what God has done that we can do or walk worthy of our call.

“Stand” refers to the battle position of holding one’s ground against the adversary to defend what Christ has already obtained for us.

I admit I still have about 25 pages to go, but I find myself nodding my head, because I am finally getting it; that I am victorious because of what Christ has done and not by striving for perfection. On the Cross Christ said “it is finished”, and it is!

God can raise the standard for righteousness and holy living high only because He believes in His ability and He can make such exacting demands on Himself. We meet those standards by letting Him live through us. Sit, Walk, Stand is a must-read.
