Pursuit of God Conference 2019

The annual Pursuit of God Conference (P.O.G) is an opportunity to develop a closer walk with God and explore new depths of intimacy through worship, prayers and through the teachings of the word. It started as a 3-day conference many years ago and has evolved into 21 days of deeper and closer relationship with God.

The theme for this year’s Pursuit of God’s (P.O.G) programme is “OVERFLOW”.

Text: Amos 9:13 (Amplified version) "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine and all the hills shall melt [that is, everything heretofore barren and unfruitful shall overflow with spiritual blessing]”.

Jesus is the centre of our Christian faith and as we lift up the name of Jesus over the 21 days of prayer and fasting, we believe that amazing things will begin to happen, that there will be an OVERFLOW of God’s favour in our lives and in our nation.

Growing through Prayer

Everyone is encouraged to spend more time in prayer as we pursue God diligently this month.

4 prayer points for hourly prayers.

1. Pray for the Overflow of the spirit of God and of the things of the spirit into our lives. Joel 2:23-24 (AMP)

23 So rejoice, O children of Zion, And delight in the LORD, your God; For He has given you the early [autumn] rain in vindication
And He has poured down the rain for you, The early [autumn] rain and the late [spring] rain, as before. 24 And the threshing floors shall be full of grain, And the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.
Psalm 23:5 (AMP) 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed and refreshed my head with [a]oil; My cupt overflows.

2. Pray for the Overflow of God into our families (Joel 2:25-27)

25 “And I will compensate you for the years that the swarming locust has eaten,
The creeping locust, the stripping locust, and the gnawing locust—My great army which I sent among you. 26 “You will have plenty to eat and be satisfied
And praise the name of the LORD your God Who has dealt wondrously with you; And My people shall never be put to shame. 27 “And you shall know [without any doubt] that I am in the midst of Israel [to protect and bless you], And that I am the LORD your God, And there is no other;
My people will never be put to shame).

Psalm 65:9-11 9 You visit the earth and make it overflow [with water]; You greatly enrich it; The stream of God is full of water;
You provide their grain, when You have prepared the earth. 10 You water its furrows abundantly, You smooth its ridges; You soften it with showers,
You bless its growth. 11 You crown the year with Your bounty, And Your paths overflow.

3. Pray for the Overflow of God into the church using Jesus House as a point of contact. Romans 15:13 (AMP)

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises.

4. Pray for Overflow into the nation. Joel 2:18-32 (AMP)

Overflow & Deliverance Promised

18 Then the LORD will be jealous for His land [ready to defend it since it is rightfully and uniquely His] And will have compassion on His people [and will spare them]. 19 The LORD will answer and say to His people,
“Behold, I am going to send you grain and new wine and oil, And you will be satisfied in full with them; And I will never again make you an object of ridicule among the [Gentile] nations.
20 “But I will remove the northern army far away from you, And I will drive it into a parched and desolate land, with its forward guard into the eastern sea (Dead Sea)
And with its rear guard into the western sea (Mediterranean Sea).
And its stench will arise and its foul odour of decay will come up [this is the fate of the northern army in the final day of the LORD],
For [a]He has done great things.”

Growing through Fasting

Fasting is the act of abstaining from any form of physical gratification as a means to achieving spiritual benefits.
A fast is an act of submission and consecration to God. Fasting allows the spirit of a man to become more sensitive to the Spirit of God by weakening the flesh but empowering the spirit. Hence we are more spiritually sensitive and we are able to hear God more clearly. It also helps our prayers become more effective and in tune with God’s will.
A fast is expected to be accompanied by prayer, meditation/reading of the Word of God and worship i.e. any activity that seeks the face of God.
Fasting must also be embarked upon with the right motives and the right attitude, otherwise it is not acceptable to God, and no more than a hunger strike or weight loss project. Isaiah 58 sheds light on the true fast - it encourages humility, loosens the chains of injustice, unties the chords of the yoke, frees the oppressed, feeds the hungry, provides for the poor, and clothes the naked.

Fasting Guidelines

For this fast, we will be abstaining from foods in any of the following ways:
  • Abstaining from food every day from 6am to 6pm (minimum participation)
  • For those who are able to, you are welcome to abstain from food i.e. take liquids only, for periods of time i.e. 3, 7, 14 days etc combined with the minimum requirement of breaking at 6pm each day.
  • And for those who are able to, you are welcome to abstain from food i.e. take liquids only for the entirety of the fast i.e. from 1st -21st June.
  • The Biblical justification of fasting

2:20 (NIV) 20 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast. Fasting may physically mean limiting the intake of food for a period of time or a season but in spiritual terms, it is a demonstration of humility and submission to God, it is a way of yielding ourselves to His will (I humbled myself with fasting - Psalm 35:13)

HealthCare - Points to note for fasting
