New Frontiers - Taking New Territory

As we enter into a new decade, it is a good time to look back and give thanks for all the Lord has done for us. We look forward to this year’s new beginnings and we realise that living a mediocre life just will not do anymore, and living in the fullness of God’s love should be our daily aspiration. Life as it was just cannot remain the same anymore. We must endeavour to be led by the spirit of God in everything that we do.

As we enter this new year, we ask ourselves; how should we enter into this new time? We know that the year ahead will not be easy, and that taking new ground has its challenges, for there is no victory without a fight. So we must keep focused and fight on to achieve what God has called us to do.

The book of 2 Kings 7 describes the story of the Lepers who were desperate for food and decided to give themselves up to the mercy of the Syrian army. If the Syrians spared them and gave them food, they would be saved and if they killed them, the lepers would be no worse off than their current condition.

When they entered the Syrian army territory they found it deserted with plenty of food and water, and they enjoyed this abundance. Later, to their amazement, they realised that the Syrians had fled and left plenty of food, gold and silver behind.

The lepers entered the city gates and told the King what had happened. Food became so plentiful that a measure of fine flour could be bought for a shekel, just As Elisha had prophesised in God’s name. The famine was indeed over, and the siege had been lifted.

The story teaches us that God worked a miracle through the hope of these four lepers who knew they didn’t have anything to lose. For us, we must understand it is the people who have the courage to face hard choices, make tough decisions who will move forward in faith and see the glory of The Lord manifest in their lives. Those who are doubtful and fearful of what is to come will struggle.

We must all confront the paralysing fear in our lives, knowing that as we move boldly forward, GOD WILL GO WITH US.
