Youth Enterprise Scheme

Elevate your Future in Enterprise 2010

20 young people within the Barnet borough have been spending their summer off the streets and learning how to become future Alan Sugars. The course titled 'Elevate Your Future in Enterprise' began on July 28th and entails a range of experience-based learning.

Activities have included a road trip round the borough highlighting the difference in social class within pockets of the borough, and a recent trip to London Bridge. So far, the young people have had the priviledge of meeting GLA member and Barnet Councillor Brian Coleman, as well as the current Deputy Mayor of London, Richard Barnes. Barnet Council's head of learning, Councilor Robert Rams has been a great help with the course so far and continues to support the initiative.

The course is being run by student-led charity Elevation Networks, and has been sponsored by Jesus House. Project facilitator Samuel Kasumu said, "Our intention is to raise aspirations and teach the young people about routes into enterprise and employment. We believe that learning can be fun, and even the hardest to reach young people can benefit from our programmes that have peer-based mentoring integrated into them".

The scheme ended with a grand final on August 26th at Jesus House, where each group presented their investment idea to a panel of 3 judges.
