what is Baptism?

In the New Testament, water baptism is the complete immersion of the whole body in water as a follow on to the call of Salvation.

Baptism is derived from the Greek word “baptizo”, which means to immerse completely or overwhelm with something and in this case, to overwhelm or completely immerse in water.

We have several example of water baptism by full immersion in the New Testament, starting with John’s baptism of the Jews and later of Jesus Christ by John himself, and after the ascension of Christ by His disciples as seen several times in the New Testament especially in the Acts of the Apostles.

Water baptism by full immersion into water is one of the Christian rites like baby dedication.
You can be saved without being baptised, but you cannot be baptised without being saved.
Water baptism cannot get you saved; only faith in Jesus Christ alone can get you saved

Ephesians 2:8
For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God.
