The local health authority have issues a warning over the health risks of poisonous bracelets that have been seen in the area and are being sold at various retail outlets across the UK.
The red and black bracelets made from the Jequirity beans are made from the deadly seed of the plant Abrus precatorious.
If you have been bought or given this type of bracelet in the last two years, you should:
- Put it in a sealable bag
- Dispose of it in your household waste As an additional precaution
- Avoid contact with eyes after bagging
- Wash your hands
Anyone who is concerned that they may have ingested the seeds from this plant should seek medical advice immediately. There may be a delay of up to three days before symptoms occur.
Symptoms include:
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhoea
- Contact your GP
